Spawned amidst the eighties crack era, 50 has separated himself from his most egregious past, and attained multi-platinum sales; yet there is still a piece of history, like a persistent shadow, that follows where ever he goes and is quite obvious on 'Before I Self Destruct.' The tale depicts a blood-splattered past, with bullet holes to prove it, coupled with the current potential pitfalls of having too much; extravagance, greed, and lust are intertwined at times playfully, and other times, ruthlessly; however, 'Destruct' dips into the listener's conscience and takes him or her to a higher state of enjoyment and awe.
