Description

British import (Kitchenware). US post-punk revivalists Interpol's 2002 debut made it possible for a wave of Joy Division copycats to ape those dark-but-danceable sounds of the late-1970s/early-'80s. By 2004, coming off like the bastard offspring of Ian Curtis and Echo & the Bunnymen was a ticket to the top of the charts, even in America. Unsurprisingly, it took the Brits to do it right. The hue and cry over Editors (please observe the absence of an article in their name) and their 2005 launch THE BACK ROOM (released stateside in '06) painted them as the UK Interpol. Nothing could be further from the truth. While Editors display an obvious love for the dark, churning sound of the Chameleons, Joy Division, et al, there's not even a whiff of bandwagon-jumping here. The level of emotional commitment is so palpable, the singing so impassioned, the songwriting so sharp, and the playing so urgent and visceral, that there's no question about the band's sincerity.

Press Reviews

The band's single 'Munich' has all the angst and ice, the dispassionate vocals, the brittle guitar wail of Interpol, but with a more dance-worthy beat... CMJ (p.4)

A stunning debut Mojo

...remade their moribund heroes... into something much bigger, more emotional and transcendentally epic. NME

A victory for style, it also strikes a blow for substance. Q

Their debut, THE BACK ROOM, drags Joy Division into a posh bed of dueling guitars and streamlined atmospherics, with songs that touch on death, disease and doomed love. Rolling Stone (p.65)

Thrilling and euphoric. Stunning. The Guardian

Comments about KITCHENWARE EDITORS - Back Room:

The Editors have recently been getting alot of praise for their work, but this is still their best and freshest. They are often compared to Joy Division, but they deserve to stand alone as interesting rock. Listen to them, cameras is a great song!

Comments about KITCHENWARE EDITORS - Back Room:

The album "The Back Room" from british post-rockers Editors is a mellow version of the engaging music of bands like Interpol and Joy Division. With some great and engaging songs, Editors have created one of the better albums in the post-rock genre.

This is an album that I thoroughly enjoyed, great for listening in the car. Makes your cartrip that more envigarating!
Post New-Wave debut from Editors with sharp lyrics and guitars, revealing already the quality the band has, both in lyrics and music. After this album came the follow-up "An End Has A Start" and their most recent album "In This Light and on This Evening", which were huge succeses and deservedly so.
