Description
The album was produced by James Allan (the band’s lead singer and principal songwriter) and Rich Costey (Interpol, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Mew)
The band hail from Glasgow, UK and James Allan’s resume includes a couple of years on the dole.
Music offered a way out of a working class environment that offered unemployment as often as labour and the reality and rawness of James’ life experience is apparently clear in the songs.

3 stars out of 5 -- "'Daddy's Gone,' with its elegiac keys and choral harmonies is the FIELD OF DREAMS of rock songs....Glavegas make it cool to care. Blender (Magazine) (p.64)
Opener 'Flowers And Football Tops' sneers of Phil Sepctor, while the Ronettes-ringing 'Daddy's Gone' wonderfully couples dampened innocents with the black-clad cool of The Velvet Underground....Each tune laments a lush and epic musical story... Clash (magazine) (p.109)
4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]hey're a glorious return to the reverb and Jack Nitzsche production sound that The Jesus And Mary Chain trumpeted back in the mid-'80s. Mojo (Publisher) (p.108)

3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Glasvegas create wall-of-distortion melodrama that draws on the Jesus and Mary Chain, Sixties girl groups and the Velvet Underground's rain-dance pulse. Rolling Stone (p.67)

Comments about COLUMBIA Glasvegas - Glasvegas:
This album is both original and very enjoyable. Each song has its own personality, but plays well with the rest of the album too. It is just a perfect mixture of haunting music and clever lyrics. Songs like 'It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry' stay in the memory of listeners for a very long time, and leave them wanting more.

I like strong vocals which stand out. Like this. He can convey a lot of emotion through his singing. I will certainly buy their second album as well. Great epic melancholy. And the good sound/production is interesting.

Comments about COLUMBIA Glasvegas - Glasvegas:
This album is absolutely stunning. I knew a few of the songs on it and had seen them doing a small gig but I bought the album before seeing them in concert and it is an excellent debut album. Some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard.
