Description

The cartoon caricatures Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel are a little crazy, to say the least. The music group Gorillaz have mixed genres together like the blend of colours their Tank Girl-inspired videos are inspired by. The alternative, hip-hop rock music is woven together by the UK band Blur’s Damon Albarn. Their first two albums have sold 12 million copies, and set the bar of expectations for the next.

Their delivery of ‘Plastic Beach’ does not disappoint, ageing the wild band a little, having a five year break from their last release, and collaborating with an incredible cast of musicians. With vocal appearances by Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, Lou Reed and others, there are just as many curious sounds that’ll add to the group’s already mesmerizing repertoire of rock, electricity and hip-hop. These tracks have an upgraded version of contemporary pop music, without the risk of cheapening the Gorillaz to a second-rate group.

This CD is so amazing. BUY IT! Especially Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and On Melancholy Hill are evergreens, which you can hear over and over again. It's clearly one of the best albums of 2010.

Comments about EMI Gorillaz - Plastic Beach:

A bit of a departure from the earlier bouncy, quirky Gorillaz tunes, this album is much more eclectic, travelling through hip-hop, dance, and pop, and even encorporating the Syrian Orchestra.
It takes time to get into, but the album gets better with each play. Standout tracks are still the Gorillaz tunes, like the wistful Melancholy Hill, and Stylo (excepting the Mos Def and Womak cameo).
A great album - plus brilliant live.

Comments about EMI Gorillaz - Plastic Beach:

A new, wonderful album by the Gorillaz. Or perhaps less the cartoon band now and more a set of musicians around Damon Albarn who centers this album. You don't even realise how diverse the songs are, it feels as a whole. And the songs are great, full of rap, funk, pop and drop-ins by famous guests.

Comments about EMI Gorillaz - Plastic Beach:

I like the upbeat tone of this CD. It is an excellent progression after Demon Days. The lyrics are thoughtful and the melodies are really catchy. Gorillaz have made a quality album here!

Great album, for me it's original and love the way they have guest stars on most of the tracks. Love the Gorillaz universe, and with this album they have expanded even more, than they had with their other two albums. If you love the first two, you will love this too.

OK I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS CD FOR SOME TIME AND WHEN I GOT IT FIRST I WAS A LITTLE DISAPOINTED AFTER THE EXCELLENT DEMON DAYS.IF I HAD REVIEWED IT AT THE TIME I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY ONLY GIVEN IT TWO STARS BUT LIKE ANY GOOD ALBUM ITS A GROWER.I GIVE IT FOUR STARS NOW BUT WHO KNOWS I MIGHT WANT TO GIVE IT FIVE NEXT WEEK.I'D RECOMEND IT TO ANYBODY WITH A BROAD RANGE IN MUSIC BUT ABOVE ALL STICK WITH IT.
