The album has quite a few obvious hits if youre into Queens of the Stoneage as it builds mostly on the direction taken long ago by Josh Homme and associates. Which is of course great about the album but it still leaves a slightly static impression and the thought that this might as well have been just another Queens-album. You would think that such big characters as John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl would mark themselves more explicitly playing together.
Admittedly, just a few times you might be able to spot some 70s rock influence but you will have to listen hard for it. It´s easier to identify Grohl on the record when he pounds the drums with that furious energy you also know from Songs for the Deaf.
Bottom line: It´s a great buy so enjoy !

The best superband ever couldn't disappoint me. Nirvana + Led Zeppelin + Queens The Stone Age = Them Crooked Crew.

Don't expect it to make a big impact at the first listening, you have to listen to every guitar riff, every drum beat... and then you'll love this album.

This album contains the best elements of it's three members! Ghrols animal, raw percussion style. Homme's carefully crafted and thoughtful lyrics, and Jones's experence and multi-instumentalism that really brings it all together. The band excudes coolness and lared in each track you can certainly hear the blues, psychedelic and rock and roll influences coming through.
Sadly if your expecting something groundbreaking - this is not for you. It is very much a melting pot of the three bands involved, nonetheless a savage album for all rock and indie fans that bring back the days when bands truely used to ROCK!!!

How do you review a quality line-up like this,on paper awesome, so you think how will it sound. First off as Homme is the vocalist and lead guitarist, it does sound like qotsa (not a bad sound I might add). Grohl ,as we all know, is happy behind the kit (Duracell bunny springs to mind?)off setting Jpj's rhythms, this in turn allows Homme the freedom to have fun. This album does sound like these guys had fun in the studio putting together these tracks, the down side is, how long for the follow up. This only leaves you wanting more......

John-Paul Jones undoubtedly has a huge influence in this album and rightly so. Josh Homme applies his unique style both in vocals and subtle guitar riffs, while Grohl goes back to what I think he does best.

Bandoliers could have been written in Zep's heyday, with more than a touch of Achilles Last Stand thrown in. Elephants is how a rock song should sound, raw and simple.

This is another great release by Dave Grohl of the(Foo Fighters, Nirvana). You can go wrong with this cd.. BUY IT !!!!!

A circling vulture usually signifies impending death and whilst the rest of the record industry seems intent on speeding it up its own demise, in a desert of apathy comes a sign of life. This album has the impact of a road crash and the inertia and a 10 ton artic without an escape lane. The freshness of Nonone Loves Me followed by the relentless Mind Eraser and blatant appeal to the inner carnivore of New Fang that grips you from the beginning like tallans and doesn't let go. The pace of the album is breathtaking and resistance is futile, from the chorus in Elephants and metal hammer blow of Gunmen the cd heralds new hope that all is not lost. Album of the year by a crooked mile.

Always a little anxious when expectations are so high before hand but this album just ticks all the boxes without even breaking a sweat.
The tunes rock out and the musicianship is obvious from the off, the tracks are made for dancing and getting your groove off to. I've played this album continually in the car since it arrived and it's not getting old any time soon.
The power of the tracks is immense, the bass lines and drums just amazing, then layer Mr Homme over the top of that and well, you've guessed it, a smile will cross your face.
Perfect for a lift any time you need it, and just what you'd expect from such an esteemed line up of players.
