Mystic River: Deluxe Edition (3 Disc Set)

Childhood friends Jimmy, Dave and Sean are driven apart after a terrible tragedy, although all still live in the same working-class Boston neighbourhood. Years later, Jimmy's 19 year old daughter is savagely murdered and it appears that Dave (Tim Robbins) is the prime suspect. Now a cop, it is up to Sean (Kevin Bacon) to piece together the mystery before Jimmy (Sean Penn) takes the law into his own hands.

Director Clint Eastwood has created that rare thing these days: a powerful drama built on an excellent script and fine performances, most notably Oscar-winning turns from both Sean Penn and Tim Robbins. Ably supported by Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishbourne, Laura Linney and Marcia Gay Harden this tense, brooding thriller proves to be a modern masterpiece.
