Description

Slumdog Millionaire, from director Danny Boyle, is a film to add to any DVD collection. Danny Boyle is known for visceral realism, directing films such as Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, and 28 Days Later. Slumdog Millionaire returned Boyle to major motion picture spotlight and pulled the viewer into India with Boyle's trademark realism. Slumdog Millionaire takes the viewer into the world of Jamal, a young man who has grown up in an impoverished and frequently dangerous Mumbai. The viewer meets Jamal as he is one question away from winning the Indian version of the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. His story is told through a series of flashbacks as the viewer learns how his life experiences have taught him the answers which have brought him to the game show's final question. The film is beautifully shot and captures both the bright heat and dark nights of India as Boyle reveals Jamal's world. The film's soundtrack, by famed Bollywood soundtrack creator A.R. Rahman, is a driving force to the visuals. With Rahman's fusion of traditional Indian themes, electronica, and hip-hop, the music allures the viewer and propels them through Jamal's world. Slumdog Millionaire cleverly tells the tale of one young man's life, love, and loss while immersing the viewer in stunning visuals, music, and the passion required for adventure.
