Description

Spurred from the age-old question of who would win in a fight, the hugely successful films ‘Alien’ and ‘Predator’ have turned into an epic trisected battle between three species: Alien, Predator and Human. The First Person Shooter from Rebellion Developments is set in the same world 30 years after ‘Alien 3’. You can choose any of three to get a different campaign relating to the game’s story, intertwining and giving three games in one.

The Colonial Marines are the prey of the three. Equipped with your pulse rifle, shoulder light, flares and the familiar beep of the radar, you’ll need to fend off a pounce of a hungry alien or the sneak behind attack from the hidden Predator.

The Predator relies on stealth, and comes with his array of weapons, and cloaking abilities to sneak up on enemies. You’ll need to use strategy and silence to take down your target.

Aliens are the scariest of them all. Claws, tail and mouth are all weapons at your disposal. Climb up walls, pounce on terrified humans, and even to experience the alien’s mouth-cam as you bite into your victim.

The multiplayer modes will incorporate what made the previous Alien VS Predator games successful, and adding more functionality. With deathmatch, co-op and survivor, the game’s replayability will last for a good amount of time.

The game’s celebration of the franchises has caused the game to be banned in Germany and almost in Australia due to its violent nature. With dismemberment, trophy kills and aliens using their sharp tails to poke, you can be rest assured the game holds back from no censor.

Comments about Aliens vs Predator (PC):

      My specs:
      Windows Vista 64-bit
      Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26Ghz
      4GB RAM
      nVIDIA GeForce 9800 512MB

Runs smoothly in DX9 with almost 100% graphical options turned on.

Anyone who loves Aliens and/or Predators (and Colonial Marines!) will absolutely love this game.
Anyone who is simply looking for another FPS may not be so pleased.

Parents take note: The M rating is there for good measure! It's extremely violent and gorey with a lot of profanities thrown in. In fact, it's probably the most graphic portrayal of violence in games that you can find today, vividly and frequently portraying people getting their heads ripped off with spinal cords dangling, puking blood as they are impaled through the stomach and screaming in terror as they are stabbed in the eye. Yup, it's good old AvP all right.

I'm glad they didn't tone it down for the kiddies like in the AvP movies which were horrendous. It stays true to the original content found in the comics and earlier games and fans of either will not be disappointed.

The graphics are superb on DX9, and I can only imagine how amazing they are on DX11 as my graphics card does not support it. The frame-rate was consistently smooth throughout, although the number of characters on screen at any one time does not exceed double digits, which is a bit of a let-down given the potential a huge swarm of aliens coming towards you would of had on the gameplay.

The controls are fully customizable and adequate for each species. The alien takes the most getting used to as you really have to use the walls and ceilings to be effective in combat. At first it will be disorientating and troublesome but after not too long you will be dropping down behind unsuspecting marines from out of the shadows to swiftly and silently take them out.
As for the Marine and Predator, if you've played any other FPS in the last 10 years you will be immediately comfortable playing them.

Right now there aren't many people online so it's actually quite hard to find a multiplayer game which is a real shame as that is where this game really shines. I look forward to when more people have this game and the servers get more full.

Until then Singleplayer and Survivor mode should keep most players busy enough. Although a big issue is that there are only a paltry TWO maps provided for survivor! I'm certain a DLC map-pack is around the corner, let's just hope it'll be free, cause it really should be. 2 maps is unacceptable for a game from as big a name publisher as SEGA.

The sound is what you'd expect and not to mention WANT from a game like this. There are official reviews out there that condemn the use of sounds that are lifted from the movies, but seriously, what more could you want? You WANT to hear the shriek of an alien and the ripping of a pulse rifle and be able to recognize it! I can't imagine playing the game with any other sounds in their place. It wouldn't feel right.

In the end, AvP is a great reboot to the series, and while it doesn't break any new ground in terms of gameplay or ideas, it will appeal to anyone who loves the alien vs predator universe.

It was a must-buy game of 2010 for me, and while it does leave behind a feeling of "they could have done more", at the very least, for me anyway, it will keep me satisfied until the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Comments about Aliens vs Predator (PC):

A soild game which can be fun for the fans of the franchise but may not appeal to others.
The single player mode can be good at times if you have the patience for it, you must give it time and you will slowly get hooked on it. Playing the Marine Campaign is by far the best as it is a survival horror campaign such as the likes of Doom 3 and Quake 4.
The multiplayer mode is excellent, offering a variety of game modes to choose from. There is a matchmaking system which is pretty good yet not excellent but in the next few days a dedicated server will be released which will improve the mulitplayer aspect of the game.
The graphics in this game are excellent if you have DirectX 11 but otherwise they are just average gaming graphics.
The sounds are alo excellent in this game, having an Alien hiss at you from the darkness is a moment you will not forgot too quickly.
Overall this game is enjoyable and will keep you going for some time.
