Comments about Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP):
From Square-Enix, the creator of the legendary Final Fantasy series, comes Dissidia: Final Fantasy, a 3D fighting game employing characters from the pervious Final Fantasy series. The game tells a story of an eternal conflict between godess of harmony, Cosmos and the god of discord, Chaos. Both enlists fighters from different universes to fight for their cause. After a short tutorial, the player may embark on personal chapters of the 10 protagonists from FFI-FFX. After any of the chapter is completed, the player may, then, start on the chaos chapter. Upon completion of the chaos chapter, FFXI and FFXII chapters are unlocked, and upon beating both (unlocking FFXI and FFXII secret characters by doing so), one may challenge the toughest storyline chapter, Inward.SqEn uses a similar engine to that of FF7 Crisis Core in this game, al beit added a few tweaks to enhance game play. Although there are quite a bit of new mechanisms (Free air dash, air dash, quick move, block, evade, Bravery attacks, HP attacks, guard crush, etc etc) such that it can daunt beginners. The tutorial does a very good job in introducing each of the mechanisms in detail, so do actually play through the tutorial diligiently. SqEn envisiges to recreate the fighting scene to that of FF7 advent children, and they definitely succeeds in it. The fighting scenes are very streamlined and fast paced. Visual effects are flashy and impressive. Combos and moves are very cool indeed. There is also a leveling system that keeps the hardcore leveling fan content. However, Dissidia has a rather weak storyline. The struggle between Cosmos and Chaos were not presented well enough. It feels empty and drags on. Alot of times you feel you are fighting for no real reason. Yes, it is hard to come up with a story that fits ALL ten characters from the past FF, but this is below par. Camera sometimes gets blocked by obstacles and becomes difficult to see anything. It would have been nice to implement a transparency when there's a wall between characters and the camera. That being said, Dissidia is still a strong fighting game. The gameplay is exciting and thrilling. Boss fights are challenging and exciting. And finally, to not spoil too much who doesn't shiver a little bit at the final boss when he jumps out of the battle stadium?
